Advantages:

  1. Flexibility: One of the main advantages of mobile work is flexibility. Employees can often organise their working hours themselves and are not tied to a fixed location. This can lead to an improved work–life balance and also allows working in a more comfortable environment.
  2. Time savings from eliminated commuting: Eliminating the daily commute not only saves time but can also reduce stress. This leads to higher satisfaction and potentially to increased employee productivity.
  3. Cost savings: Employees can save money through the elimination of commuting costs and expenses for business attire. Companies, for their part, can realise savings by requiring less office space and fewer resources.
  4. Talent acquisition and retention: Mobile work can be attractive to prospective employees and thus facilitate talent acquisition. At the same time it can help retain existing employees by offering the flexibility they seek.
  5. Global collaboration: Mobile work facilitates collaboration across borders. Teams can be internationally composed, opening access to global talent and markets.

Disadvantages:

  1. Isolation and lack of social interaction: A primary disadvantage of mobile work is potential isolation. The absence of personal interaction can negatively affect team dynamics and employee well‑being.
  2. Difficulty separating work and private life: Although mobile work enables flexible scheduling, it can be difficult to separate work and leisure. This may lead employees to work outside regular hours and increase the risk of burnout.
  3. Communication barriers: Communication in a remote environment can be challenging. Misunderstandings occur more frequently and it can be harder to convey clear expectations and instructions.
  4. Technical issues: Mobile work is highly dependent on technology. Technical problems and unreliable internet can significantly impair work.
